Sustainable Processes - Chickens

We have about 1,500 to 2,000 hens for the eggs need of the farm's kitchen as well as the hotel's restaurant. About 200 turkeys on rotation, 800 quails for eggs and meat, geese and ducks as well. Every other week we receive a batch of 500 chicks for meat for the workers and hotel as well.
All these birds are kept on a specific area where they live on concrete floor covered with rice husk, this is collected every week and used as fertilizer (either on the compost bins or let it rest and used by itself on the coffee plantation). The collecting of the rice husk serves two purposes, one to keep the area always clean and the other to use the by-product. The eggs shells are also collected to be used as part of the fertilizer bins.
