WaterThe water used in the process of milling the coffee is stored in bio-digestors. Large tanks that are half way full with volcanic rock that host a lot of bacteria that will clear out the water by fermentation. The gas produce of this fermentation (methane gas) is used in the workers main kitchen for cooking purposes and the excess water, now clear, is used to irrigate the pastureland for the cattle. This water is stored in ponds and damps, were lilies will finish the cleaning work, this water is still with a lot or organic material. The water is irrigated on the dry season all over the pastureland fertilizing it at the same time we are watering it on the summer. PulpAnother by product of the coffee is the pulp. This is stored to be later used in the compost bins but also used by itself as a fertilizer in some areas. Coffee HuskAnd we also have the coffee husk, which comes back from the dry mill and is used as a ground cover on the coffee plantation. Conclusion:Coffee for export, pulp for fertilizer, mucilage for methane
gas, husk for ground cover. |
